O’Connor eclipses own school pole vault record at VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior Joe O’Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) broke his own school record in the pole vault to lead the Washington and Lee men’s track team on day two of the VMI Winter Classic on Saturday.

Meeting Highlights

  • O’Connor took first place in the event, clocking a height of 5.00m (16’4.75″). He cleared the bar in all four attempts on Saturday en route to breaking his previous indoor record of 4.84m (15′ 10.50″), which he set on December 3, 2021. His new personal best of 5.00m is tied for third best in Division III this season.
  • First year Luke Avigliano (Madison, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) placed fourth in the 500m with a time of 1:06.94, and second Zach Moore (Advance, NC/Forsyth Country Day School) was one spot behind him in fifth (1:07.00).
  • Avigliano and Moore were also on the 4x400m relay which finished 10th overall in 3:25.66. The other two members of the quartet were juniors Doug Dragon (Matthews, NC/Weddington) and Freshman George Marable (Aransas Pass, TX/Rockport-Fulton).
