Capturing on social networks

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar had a history in the August 2021 top 21 after sharing in an interview that there was unreleased material in the vault from his time with the band, but “not that much”.

Hagar spoke to Ultimate Classic Rock about his upcoming residency in Las Vegas and during the chat he was asked about a 5150 era demo titled “I Want Some Action” that he and bandmate Michael Anthony recently teased via the social networks.

In the edited interview, Hagar was asked if there was more material in the vault outside of this demo and he replied, “There might be a little more there.

“There were two songs that we actually finished, 90% done, that we never mixed, and they never made a record. One was from Balance and the other was from OU812.”

He explained, “One was kind of a midtempo ballad type song ‘Can’t Stop Loving You’. The other was a kind of heavy rocker ‘Poundcake’. … I don’t know if it was just my lyrics or the music just didn’t have that shiny thing that Van Halen had, when every song was great.”

In June, Hagar and Anthony launched social media pages called “Van Hagar / Other Half”. Sammy said at the time, Sammy said, “Hi everyone, I have some new news for you. Mikey and I have been looking at our old vintage pictures of things we’ve done over the years with years Van Hagar and all that, and we found some of the coolest stuff. And we dig and we dig – we find nuggets every day and we’re going to share them with you.

Anthony added: “Hey, everyone keeps asking us, ‘Why don’t you post more stuff about the Van Hagar years?’ Well, guess what. You get the picture. We’re going to be browsing, digging through some of the stuff in the archive, trying to find stuff you haven’t seen before – maybe stuff we haven’t seen in decades. – and throw it away, and maybe post some comments to go with it.” Check out the Facebook page here.
